Good news for the little ones-Buenas noticias para los pequeñitos

It has taken us a rather long time to start "debriefing" the previous visit from Mitch, we apologize! One of the most exciting news was that Mitch recently started a project to develop a version of Scratch for smaller children.  They have been calling it "Scratch Jr." This version will be created by researchers from both the Lifelong Kindergarden Group and the Child Development Department from Tufts University.  Marina Bers, Tufts researcher that will be part of the team, was also a student of Seymour Papert at MIT Media Lab.  In the first Latin American Scratch Conference, which was held last June in San José, Mitch told us that Scratch Jr. will be designed to help small children (pre-schoolers) explore and create through programming, while respecting and supporting the language development that is taking place in those early ages.  It will probably involve touch-screen technologies, but the project is just starting so we will have to be patient to see what this wonderful team creates for the little ones. Exciting!

Nos ha tomado mucho tiempo escribir sobre la última visita de Mitch, y nos disculpamos por eso.  Una de las noticias más emocionantes fue que recientemente se han juntado esfuerzos del equipo Lifelong Kindergarden con investigadores de Tufts para desarrollar Scratch Jr.  Esta será una versión de Scratch especialmente creada para niños más pequeños, y les permite explorar y crear por medio de la programación, pero claro que respetando y apoyando la etapa de desarrollo del lenguaje en la cual están. Marina Bers, investigadora de Tufts que es parte de este equipo, también fue estudiante de Seymour Papert en el MIT Media Lab.  Todavía no se sabe cómo va a ser este programa porque están apenas comenzando, pero parece que van a involucrar tecnologías touch-screen. ¡Vamos a estar al tanto de las novedades!
